I continue the topic on Beauty of 9 by exploring Division by 9.

Children hate numbers and when it comes to division it is a chaos.

Multiplication tables, subtraction etc etc

We will see ahead how to make Division simple and child friendly.

Here we will see division by magic number 9 and no need of subtraction and multiplication tables.

Division by 9:

Let us divide 43 by 9

Standard Method:

Divisor: 9 Dividend : 43

9) 43 (4

Quotient: 4 and Remainder: 7

This required you know multiplication table of 9 and subtraction.

Rapid Method:

Divisor: 9 Dividend: 43

Step 1: Write the Ist Digit so we have 4

Step2: Add this 4 to next digit ie 3 so we have 4+3 = 7

Answer of Step 1 is Quotient (4) and Answer of Step 2 is Remainder (7)

Eg: Divide 62 by 9

Step 1: Write the Ist Digit so we have 6

Step 2: Add this 6 to next digit ie 2 so we have 6+2 = 8

Quotient = Step 1 Output = 6 and Remainder = Step 2 Output = 8

Eg : Divide 142 by 9

Step 1: Write the Ist digit so we have 1

Step 2: Add this 1 to next digit ie 4 so we have 1+4 = 5

Step 3: Add this 5 to next digit ie 2 so we have 5+2 = 7

Quotient = Output of Step1 Step2 = 15 and Remainder = Output of Step 3 = 7

This way we can divide large numbers by 9 with no subtraction and no multiplication table.

Quotient = Ist digit of Dividend : add Ist digit to next digit: sum of this to next digit and so on

Remainder = last sum we write addition of previous digit in the number

Eg: Divide 2312 by 9

Step1: Write Ist digit of number ie 2

Step 2: Add 2 to next digit ie 2+3= 5

Step3 : Add 5 to next digit ie 5+1= 6

Step 4: Add 6 to next digit ie 6+2 = 8

Quotient = Output of Step1 Step2 Step3 = 256 and Remainder = Output of Step4 = 8

Is this not simple…….
